Sportmonks is a leading provider of sports data, offering a comprehensive suite of APIs and widgets that cater to a wide range of needs, from live scores and statistics to historical data and news feeds.
Their primary focus is football (soccer), but they also offer coverage for other sports such as cricket and Formula 1.
Sportmonks began their journey with UpCloud eight years ago. As they scaled their business, they needed more performant cloud servers to handle increased customer demand.
Initially, Sportmonks tried to cope with increased demand by scaling up their backend with their previous provider. However, this didn’t adequately solve the issue, so they sought better optimisation of cloud servers at the right cost.
The Sportmonks team turned to UpCloud, valuing not only its high-performance cloud servers and lightning-fast storage but also its rapid support available around the clock.
“Our setup consists of a load balanced set of API servers and of course a couple of hosts for the database, caching and other services. This setup enables us to adjust the backend capabilities when needed without any outages to the API. Any changes can be done quickly and at ease thanks to UpCloud’s user-friendly interface.”
– Ronnie Visser, Co-Founder and Technical Director at Sportmonks
In order to ensure a smooth migration of workloads, Sportmonks enlisted the help of Twisted Bytes to migrate their systems from their previous cloud provider to UpCloud.
Beyond the migration, Twisted Bytes continues to play a crucial role in managing Sportmonks’ infrastructure. Their ongoing monitoring and maintenance ensure the system remains optimised and reliable, allowing Sportmonks to focus on delivering high-quality sports data to its users.
“As developers, we can trust in being able to create the cloud servers we need to deploy our applications without having to worry about managing servers helping focus on expanding our services to clients.” said Ronnie.
Sportmonks’ current set up has furthermore enabled them to achieve more bang for buck thanks to the stable configuration monitored by Twisted Bytes, ensuring service costs are easily predictable.
“When it comes to cost, UpCloud continues to be the right choice for us eight years later! When we initially made the switch, we saw that we could get way more requests out of the same amount of money. As we continue to scale we know that we’re optimising not only cost but performance of our servers with Twisted Bytes managing our infrastructure.”
–Ronnie Visser, Co-Founder and Technical Director at Sportmonks
With no signs of slowing down, Sportmonks plans to further expand and scale operations, ensuring sport fans are closer than ever to the action, all made possible through reliable and performant cloud services and expert management.
With many football fans in our midst, the team here at UpCloud are rooting for Sportmonks continued success together with Twisted Bytes.
