Managed Load Balancer configurations
Essentials plan
The Essentials plan is free of charge as part of UpCloud Essentials. It has the same capacity as the Development plan: a single node supporting up to 1000 concurrent sessions.
Each account can have up to 5 load balancers on the Essentials plan. For more load balancers, use one of the paid plans.
Development plan
The Development plan allows users to test the service and begin developing applications without significant upfront investments.
Supporting up to 1000 concurrent sessions, the Development plan consists of a single node for handling small to medium workloads, suitable for low-traffic applications and development environments.
Production plans
Applications and services that need higher capacity or want to enable high availability can scale up to the Production plan.
The Production plan include multiple parallel load-balancing nodes, each capable of handling up to 50,000 sessions. Forming a high availability cluster, the Production plan Load Balancer distributes workloads across all nodes in order to prevent any single node from getting overloaded.
Configurations
| Plan | Identifier | Nodes | Sessions per node |
|---|---|---|---|
| Essentials | essentials | 1 | 1,000 |
| Development | development | 1 | 1,000 |
| Production S | production-small | 2 | 50,000 |
| Production M | production-medium | 5 | 50,000 |
The identifier is the plan name to use with the UpCloud API and other tools. See the pricing page for plan prices.
Changing the plan
You can change a load balancer's plan while it runs, for example from Essentials to Production S. During a change to a plan with more nodes, requests go unanswered for about 20 seconds. During a change back to a plan with one node, they can go unanswered for up to about three minutes. The change gives the load balancer new node addresses on its private networks, see Addresses on private networks. Its DNS name stays the same.
