Goodbye endless pricing documents. Now you can easily generate a real-time estimate for running your cloud infrastructure on UpCloud.

From idea to reality

The UpCloud Cost Calculator began as an internal hack project, with the goal of simplifying UpCloud’s cost calculations. Our sales teams had relied on spreadsheets to generate estimates, which is great if you know UpCloud inside-out, but not so great if you independently want to gauge how much it would cost to host your website or run some simple workflows.   

So last year at the UpCloud Barcelona company retreat hackathon, we teamed up to tackle this problem, building an MVP in just 48 hours. The sleepless nights were worth it, because we won! 

Under the hood, the calculator is a static HTML React.js app utilizing our upcloud-ui-kit.The prices are fetched during build, so they are part of the static HTML bundle. So when you enter data to the calculator, we don’t need to do any API calls. This also means it’s incredibly fast.

Once we were back in the office (or back remotely at our laptops), we set up a cross-team project, between those focusing on PaaS and the Customer Experience, to turn the hackathon MVP into a reality. 

Today, we’re stoked to share this with you, so you can quickly and easily calculate your infrastructure costs. Our sales team is also pretty happy with the simplified quote building!
