As a European company serving a predominantly European customer base, TAGGRS recognized a critical shift in market demand and growing concerns around data sovereignty. Larger clients, in particular, were demanding assurances about where their data was stored, driven by fears related to the U.S. Cloud Act and the desire to ensure GDPR compliance.
“Our main customer base is Europe, where concerns around data sovereignty are growing, especially in light of the U.S. Cloud Act and the Trump administration. Larger companies are coming to us with more privacy centric demands about where their data lives. That’s why we made the move to a European cloud.”
Niels Olivier, CEO at TAGGRS
Simultaneously, the company’s rapid growth began to strain its self-managed infrastructure. The team found itself spending more time on maintenance than on innovation, with the initial complexities of managing their Kubernetes environment leading them to Pionative, a fellow Dutch company specializing in simplified Kubernetes management.
This partnership was key to the subsequent search for a cloud provider that could meet both the technical need for scalability and the strategic requirement for European data jurisdiction.
A truly European cloud partnership
TAGGRS chose UpCloud to become the first truly European Server-side Tracking Provider, utilizing our extensive European infrastructure and a suite of managed services. This move was a strategic decision to ensure customer data remains in Europe, compliant with European regulations like GDPR, and free from the jurisdiction of third-country governments.
“Hosting data within Europe isn’t just a technical decision. It’s a strategic one,” says Olivier. “As a European company, we believe your customer data should be protected by European laws, stored on European soil, and handled by partners who understand the value of privacy. That’s how you build real trust in a privacy-first world.”
Working closely with UpCloud Partner Pionative for Kubernetes expertise, TAGGRS deployed a robust, highly available setup utilizing a range of UpCloud services, including Managed Kubernetes (UKS), Managed Databases, Load Balancers, Object Storage, and Backups. This combined effort allowed TAGGRS to outsource the heavy lifting of infrastructure maintenance.
Peace of mind and 30% more innovation time
The transition to UpCloud and managed services, alongside the partnership with Pionative, delivered significant technical and business benefits.
From a business perspective, TAGGRS gained a critical competitive advantage. Olivier notes, “We’re proud to be the first to offer this kind of solution as a truly European provider—it’s quickly becoming a must-have.”
Technically, the shift to UpCloud’s managed services solved their scalability and maintenance challenges.
“When we started growing, managing the setup started to require more time. We needed a more scalable solution that freed our developers from a number of manual tasks, so we could better focus on innovation.”
Niels Olivier, CEO at TAGGRS
This newfound efficiency has translated into quantifiable gains with the TAGGRS team now having approximately 30% more time to innovate their infrastructure and service offering. The environment is also set up to be much more scalable, ready to seamlessly cope with their continuing growth.
The collaboration itself is described as “great,” with open and transparent communication between TAGGRS, Pionative, and UpCloud, which quickly resolved any initial deployment issues.
TAGGRS remains focused on growth, confident that their workload can seamlessly scale with UpCloud’s reliable European cloud platform. We’re excited to see what lies in store for TAGGRS and being part of their growth journey.
